Museum

Visitors at Grigore Antipa Museum can experience just about everything from Greenland to Greece and enjoy a cup of tea while they’re at it. The 171-year-old Museum of Natural History, located at Soseaua Kiseleff 1, offers documentary films and lectures along with tea and biscuits at 5 p.m. on the last Saturday of every month.

The admission price of two new lei, less than the cost of a movie ticket, is worth the tea and biscuits alone.

But there’s much more. In a recent presentation, Museum Director Dumitru Murariu showed rare photos of previously undocumented marine life discovered after the catastrophic tsunami that struck South Asia at the end of 2004.

Mysterious fossils more than 200 million years old were on the schedule for February after Mihai Popa returned from an international expedition of paleobotanists who probed the ice cap of northeastern Greenland.

Coming attractions include these illustrated lectures:
“I Climbed the Highest Peaks of the Seven Continents,” by Alpinist Constantin Lacatusu, March 18
“A Zoologist among Ruins - from Tomis to Troy”, by Dr. Corneliu Parvu, Apr. 29
“Friendships at the Antipodes - Two Months among Chilenos Rumanos,” by researcher Dorel-Marian Rusti, May 27.
The series ends in May. Reservations are recommended. E-mail auroras@antipa.ro or call 021-312.88.26, extension 137. For further information on conferences, visit antipa.ro/pconferinte.html.
